Screenwriters For The Movie Fifty Shades of Grey

Fifty Shades of Grey is the hottest thing around - and I'm not just talking about its steamy subject matter! The book has rocketed to the number one position in the charts and has been steadily increasing in sales week after week with no intention of submitting. Now that Universal Pictures and Focus Features have acquired the rights to the bestselling erotic trilogy by E.L. James, everyone in Hollywood wants in on the action. While the whole Internet is going crazy talking about the casting for the movie Fifty Shades of Grey, producers of the movie, Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti of The Social Network fame, are more interested in finding a screenwriter for the moment. At present, the shortlist of writers who are being considered to pen the script for the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey seem a little unconventional, with Karen Croner, Dan Fogelman, Veena Sud and Kelly Marcel. Many of these screenwriters have worked on the big screen before, but on nothing like Fifty Shades of Grey. Fogelman probably carries the most experience, having credits to his name like Cars 2 and Bolt, but will his family friendly experience be suitable for the raunchy S&M romance that is Fifty Shades of Grey? Sud may be a little more suitable, after having worked with darker stories like the US adaptation of the Danish crime series The Crime as well as future work to adapt the remake of Hitchcock's Suspicion.

Croner is already working with Universal Pictures and Focus Features on the adaption of Jean Hanff Korelitz's novel Admission, and she also wrote the script for the movie adaptation of One True Thing. British writer and actress Kelly Marcel is probably best known for Fox's Terra Nova and for having written the script for Saving Mr. Banks - a movie starring Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks that will begin production next month. American Psycho writer Bret Easton Ellis, who desperately wanted the job, has been dropped off the short list. Easton Ellis has been very public about his disappointment on his Twitter account. Whoever will get the job will have a bit project on their hands. With so many avid fans of the book, the screenwriter will have a lot of pressure to come up with an adaptation that will work on the big screen, while keeping the fans content. The Movie Fifty Shades OF Grey is planned to be released in late 2013.
